I recently felt an overwhelming urge to return to making music, and so I swiftly acted upon it.
Some background: I’ve always been a huge music guy, specifically an EDM head in my teenage years, hence the natural next step when I was 15 was to pirate a DAW with my friend and begin creating our own tracks. This hobby was put on hold after I graduated from JC as the old (and obnoxiously huge) ass macbook I was working on was finally breaking down. I released one final track on my Soundcloud and rode off into the sunset.
I’ve been listening to a lot of music lately that has evoked a similar level of inspiration to what I had felt when I was 15 - namely a lot of Frost Children - and so began the process of reintegrating this hobby back into my life.
I started off by purchasing Ableton Live 12 (Standard) on a big student discount, and then spent a while learning how to navigate the UI and figuring out what the Ableton equivalents of my favourite Logic Pro keybinds were.
I also began paying for Serum 2 on a monthly-based subscription and pirated the whole FabFilter bundle as bare necessities to get me off the ground. Combined with the stock Ableton plugins, these should be more than enough for me for the first month or so to shake the rust off and come up with some demos.
Ideally, I will be keeping track of my Production Setup as I go along.
