I can only describe this as a half-assed collection of demos that’s just remarkably bad, which is kinda what we come to expect from Kanye these days unfortunately. Even as a formerly massive fan of his (his earlier music has undoubtedly shaped my music taste from my teenage years into my army years), I have long recognised that this is all we can expect from him at this stage of his career. Since the calamity that was Donda 2, nothing this man has released has even come close to sounding like a fully fleshed out song, and the man’s nitrous addiction has had irreversible impacts on his ability to not only write his own material (and bring that sharp wittiness he was famous for) but also convince anyone listening to his borderline comatose deliveries that he actually has any of that “Old Kanye” energy left in him. I will say that there are some half-ideas here that would actually have made decent full-songs, but beyond that there is basically nothing enjoyable about this project. That peso pluma collab is probably the toughest listen I’ve had all year. You just hate to see an artist who had all the talent in the world so washed up now. Kanye is unrecognisable.
